Sukmawati Soekarnoputri at Devdan Show

24 May 2012

Ibu Sukmawati Soekarnoputri looked ecstatic as she left the theatre, Monday, May 21, 2012. She went directly to the cast of Devdan Show to congratulate them and express her appreciation of the performance she just finished watching. "Tell me, which ones of you were those amazing aerial dancers?" The many daring movements in the performance, as well as the use of superb lighting and special effects, never fail to impress the audience. "There's nothing like it in Jakarta!" said Ibu Sukma. Raised in a family that has been actively involved in art she surely did not make an overstatement.

Sukmawati Soekarnoputri is the board chairwoman of The Sukarno Center, an organization that is named after Indonesia's 1st President and founding father, Soekarno. It aims to carry out his patriotic aspirations through various social and cultural programs. Ibu Sukma is the daughter of Soekarno and sister of Indonesia's 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri. Her youngest brother, Guruh Soekarnoputra is a reputable choreographer and song writer. Many of his songs and dance repertoires are a marriage between Balinese style and contemporary style. "I should've invited him to the show," said Ibu Sukma. "He would love it."

Sukmawati's father Soekarno – Bung Karno, as he was often called – was also Indonesia's most celebrated orator. Many of his words keep alive till today and they show his unwavering love of Indonesia. In one of his speeches, Bung Karno expressed his pride of Indonesia's cultural diversities: "Our nation is rich. Rich. Very rich, my fellow countrymen! Be rich at heart and in imagination. Dig! Work! Dig! Work! We are the most beautiful country in the world!"

"Devdan – Treasure of the Archipelago" is a modern & contemporary acrobatic and dance performance that is inspired by the culture of Indonesia. The show is performed every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 07:00 pm, only at Bali Nusa Dua Theatre.

In her testimonial on Devdan Show, Ibu Sukmati Soekarno wrote:

"Awesome! Very Lovely Indonesia! Love you all. "
